PPID seemed non-existent in the past. A horse of 15+ simply developed age-related ailments that worsened as it grew older. Sometimes such a senior was lucky, and the veterinarian considered what we then called Cushing’s disease.

We now know that many of those ‘ailments’ are characteristics of PPID; the current name for this unpleasant condition.
